Halloween
Halloween is a festival celebrated on 31st of October to thank for good harvest. Now days, people enjoy this event dressed up in a costume even in Japan.
Its origin is the festival over 2000 years ago in ancient Europe amongst Celtics thanking for good harvest in Autum as well as keeping evil spirits away. People believed that spirits come back at this time just like OBON in Japan. The festival was introduced and spread amongst Christians in USA. And it has become the second biggest even following after Christmas in the country. Visiting people collecting sweets as we know now was the arranged version of how people gathered food for the ancient festival back in the old days. The reason dressing up as a ghost or scary things is to keep evil spirits away.
Children calling out "Trick or treat!" has become popular in USA as social event. The " Jack-o'-lantern" that we curve a pumpkin into a ghost with eyes, nose, and moth curved out and place a candle inside as an ornament, is to keep evil spirit away from your house by placing it by the gate or door outside at Halloween night.
Halloween is an event/festival involving ancient religious ceremony and folk beliefs combined together and it is enjoyed celebrating in many countries today. It can support an opportunity for children and adults enjoying together in each society. To make it an extremely enjoyable event, it is important that everyone follow rules with manners. Everyone, be safe!!
