OBON
『OBON』 is a Japanese event to welcome ancestors' sprits at home to thank them as well as to be grateful to your families. OBON is originated from Buddhism 『URABONE』, and the origin of the word is 『URANBAHNA』 in Sanskrit which means "the pain of being hung upside down".
Depending on regions OBON is held in different time. Most commonly it is from 13th to 16th of August, and others held in July. During OBON time, people spend time with their families and ancestors.
OBON's events are such as followings:
・Welcoming fire and seeing off fire: Place fire for ancestors when welcoming and seeing off
・Offerings: Place what ancestors liked or seasonal fruits
・BON-ODORI (dances): Japanese traditional dances to comfort ancestors' spirits
OBON is the time to show respect to your ancestors and spend time with your families making the bond stronger and deeper. It is a great opportunity to look into to your roots and ancestors for all of us.
