We often come across hearing the word 『diversity』. There are maybe a few people who are not sure what it actually means but not comfortable asking what it is since the word has become quite common. Diversity has become one of the most important sectors in our lives and working places.

『Diversity』 is a condition which people with different age, sexualities, nationalities, races, educations, careers, values, and so on to be existing together. In the global societies, there are many different cultures and ideologies involved in our lives as many people from overseas live in Japan as well as tourists. It has influences on trends, lifestyles, and working styles.

The most affected areas to all people are 『LIFE』 and 『WORK』. In 『LIFE』, we can easily see changes in foods and entertainments. And also, there are changes in parenting and housework. In the older days, Japanese families commonly divided responsibilities according to the sexualities such as men are responsible for working to ensure income of the house, and women are to stay at home responsible for housework and parenting. However, it is common that both men and women to be responsible for all working, parenting, and housework now days. Therefore, we are expected to be multi-skilled to be able to complete multi-tasks. And it is essential to work together as being equal in the family.

The number of working aged people decreasing is one of the most serious problems in Japan. Therefore, in 『WORK』, there are changes to be expected. Many people were working on one task back in the days but now, workers are expected to be responsible for multi-tasks. And to do so, they are expected to be multi-skilled as the number of workers are decreasing. It is essential to have each worker to be bright in several specialities with knowledges, skills, and qualifications. It expands their working abilities, and it will lead to enhanced efficiency of each task maintaining the company's profits. What should be valued here is consideration for quantity of work for each worker and their burden. This is the reason each company is working hard to provide mental health division at work maintaining and managing workers' mental health. Supports and cares for workers are extremely valued in a working environment.

We are now responsible for various tasks and factors in both 『LIFE』 and 『WORK』. Therefore, we must keep on improving ourselves by studying for new and deeper subjects as well as for qualifications. The more knowledges and values get extended, the more we become a better person with satisfaction. To get the biggest merit from 『diversity』 is to respect and support each other. There is a Japanese saying 『10 people with 10 colors』 meaning when there are 10 people, they are all different in each way. Respecting each other and working together by using the differences of each is always valuable in both old days and now days.
